Collonges-la-Rouge

Limousin

Just in between the regions of Quercy and Limousin, the red of the sandstone houses blends with the green of the climbing vines.

It was born near a priory in the 7th century and is surrounded by walls, of which only two gates remain. The castle becomes the seat of a dukedom in the 13th. Collonges ruled then a string of Renaissance fortresses such as Maussac, Vasssinhac, Benge or Beauvirie, which ring the medieval heart of the village.
