La Roche-Guyon

Île-de-France

In a meander of the Seine River, dug in chalk and flintstone cliffs, La Roche-Guyon blends the architectures of Ile-de-France and Norman-style timbered houses.

In the beginning, inhabitants dwelled in caves. The 12th keep tower is surrounded by a wall and linked to the castle by an underground passage. The castle has kept angle-towers with peppermill roofs. You can walk down to the Seine through the old streets of Cote-des-Bois and gasny. The village is part of the national natural park of Véxin.
