Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert

Midi-Pyrénées

At the bottom of a wild vale, Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert is built round its abbey, a jewel of the local roman style.

Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert was a halt on the road to St Jacques and it was a landmark of christendom where pilgrims came to worship a piece of the True Cross. The roman-style church is a jewel of roman art and is a piece of world heritage.
