Vouvant

Pays de la Loire

Guillaume IV of Aquitaine discovered the place during a hunt.

Struck by the strategic location of the place, he had a castle built there, a church and a monastery in the 11th century from the church, you can admire the 11th century portal and crypt. The castle only keeps its keep tower, the Melusine tower, parts of the ancient walls and a 13th century postern used by Saint Louis. A roman-style bridge links both banks above the Mere river.

What to discover?

• Church Ste-Marie: everyday 9h-19h. • Nef Theodelin. • Tour and Maison de Melusine
